Analysis of the Causes of Hydraulic Cylinder Damage in Four Column Hydraulic Press

The information comes from:the Internet posted on:2023-08-29

The working cylinder of a four column hydraulic press is heavily loaded and frequently operated, often causing premature damage due to improper design, manufacturing, or use. Therefore, it is very necessary for us to understand its damage situation and reasons.
1. Damaged parts and characteristics of hydraulic cylinder of hydraulic press
Most of the damaged parts of the hydraulic cylinder of the four column hydraulic press are in the arc section connecting the flange and cylinder wall, followed by the arc section transitioning from the cylinder wall to the cylinder bottom. A few cracks occur on the cylinder wall, and some are damaged due to severe cavitation.
(1) Cylinder wall. Generally, cracks appear on the inner wall and gradually develop outward. The striations develop outward, with cracks mostly distributed longitudinally or forming a 40 degree angle with the cylinder wall busbar.
(2) The flange part of the cylinder. Lines appear on the outer surface of the cylinder flange at the transition arc, gradually expanding towards the circumferential direction and towards the inner wall, and finally cracking through or extending to the nail hole, causing local detachment of the flange. In some severe cases, the entire flange ring may even crack and fall off along the transition arc.
(3) At the bottom of the cylinder, circumferential cracks begin to appear on the inner surface of the transition arc, gradually expanding towards the outer wall and even penetrating.
(4) Cavitation, hydraulic cylinders of hydraulic presses can also be damaged due to honeycomb like pitting caused by cavitation, especially when entering the inner wall of the hole, which is prone to cavitation!
2. Analysis of the Causes of Hydraulic Cylinder Damage in Single Column Hydraulic Press
There are various factors that affect the working life of hydraulic cylinders. It must be analyzed based on specific circumstances, but in summary, there are mainly the following aspects.
(1) Design reasons. The design of structural dimensions is unreasonable, such as the height of the flange being too small or the outer diameter of the flange being too large, resulting in damage to the overall stress being too high.
(2) Processing and manufacturing reasons.
(3) Installation and usage reasons.
